WELCOME TO FARHILL FARM ALPACAS
Overlooking the beautiful village of Ashover and the Amber Valley to the west, together with panoramic views towards Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire to the East, our small herd of alpacas are thriving at Farhill Farm.
With Clive's background in engineering and mine in criminal justice, we had never handled anything bigger than our dogs, cats and chickens when we acquired our first two pregnant girls in November 2007.
The "fun" then began, as three young boys, a gorgeous champagne coloured maiden and our own cria , born at Farhill Farm, were established soon after. With enormous help and encouragement from the local breeders we had purchased the animals from, we learned how to handle and care for our animals.
Our enthusiasm and affection for these gentle and inquisitive animals grows with each challenge and milestone. The birth of our own cria, the visit to our local Ashover Agricultural Show, together with our first experience in the show-ring at the National Alpaca Show at Newark this year have been such good fun and so rewarding.
Our aim is to maintain a fairly small herd, whilst introducing new genetics to breed more compact animals from our rather large Chilean imported girls. Also the quality of our fleeces is of paramount importance, as we aim to produce quality, affordable alpaca garments and goods from our own fleece, by using local spinners and knitters to help local trade in the area.
In addition, we have dedicated some of our seven acres of gently sloping pasture to our small vineyard, planted with Seyval Blanc, Orion and Phoenix grape vines. On days when the wind is howling and my back is aching from "poo-picking" I look forward to the days when we are sipping our own wine whilst watching our beautiful alpacas against a sunset to rival anywhere in the world.
We hope you enjoy browsing our web-site and following the daily antics of life at Farhill Farm Alpacas ...................link to blog. |
