Our Herd -UPDATED April 2013

At Farhill Farm we currently have 5 breeding females, 1 brown, 2 black, 2 fawn.

In 2012 Miss America produced a lovley fawn female who we named Miss Lady and if she grows on well this year we will breed with her.
In early March 2014 Cha Cha at last produced a beautiful daughter who we named Chi Chi. Our plans are to breed with her in 2014.

So 7 females at present. As a result we have decided to sell our first and more experienced females and breed with the second generation of females, all born at Farhill Farm.

We have 1 black male stud, Bozedown Busby who is available for services but we have recently and reluctantly had our white stud Polo castrated as the demand for white alpacas we have found to less popular. Bozedown Busby is jointly owned by Amber Valley Alpacas.

In addition in 2012 we had 3 male cria born who are now beginning to show their potential.
We had a beautiful solid black male who is now sold, a light fawn male with a very promising fleece and the youngest male cria, born in September last year who is dark brown and one of the cutest looking cria we have ever had born at Farhill Farm.

We have 11 alpacas in total at present.

We wish to maintain a fairly small herd as we enjoy knowing them all by name and are fascinated by their individual personalities and quirky ways. We endeavour to train all our animals to walk on a halter and all ouir cria (babies) are fully trained.
We hope to progress to taking them for walks in the local countryside. All of our animals are registered with the BRITISH ALPACA SOCIETY. They all have pedigrees with some being a better pedigree than others.

CHA CHA

cha-cha
Definately the "boss" of the girls! She is a fairly larger conker brown Chilean imported alpaca. She is always first to the food and treats and she likes to get her feet in water whenever she can. She has a very gentle nature and is a fantastic mum. She has produced 5 cria here at Farhill Farm, all have now been sold as pets apart from Polo, our white  male
Cha Cha had a rest last year but we are expecting her to give birth to a cria some time in March 2013. (watch this space)

5/3/13
Cha cha gave birth to a beautiful girl cria this morning. After 5 boys we had given up hope of a little girl. All went well with the birth and Cha Cha as usual has made a great start to looking after her new baby.

CAPELLINI

Capellini is a solid blue/black and slightly smaller Chilean imported girl. She is the complete opposite in nature to Cha Cha as she tends to be very shy and usually the last to the food and treats. She is also very gentle in nature and "nibbles" her food very daintily. She has produced some lovely cria now totalling 4. Tragically Capellini's solid black male cria died within 24 hours of being born in 2011. However she produced a beautiful solid black male cria in 2012 who we called Vadar. He is healthy and doing well, having recently been weaned and has begun halter training.
Capellini gave birth to our first female cria at Farhill Farm in April 2010. She was mated to Peruvian Chocolate Kim and  the resulting cria is a fine solid black girl called Lilia.
Lilia gave birth to a fine little male cria in 2012 and has made a super Mum.

MISS AMERICA

Missy

"Missy", born on the 4th of July is a fabulous bright champagne coloured alpaca. She  has now produced 2 female cria here and they have all inherited her good looks and gentle nature. Not to mention her bright and soft dense fleece. Missy is halter trained which makes life a lot easier with matings.

FARHILL FARM CHI-CHI

 alt

Chi-Chi born March 2012 to Atlantic Cha Cha.

She has had to be sturdy and strong to survive the snow, ice and all the rest of this dreary long winter. Thankfully Cha Cha is a super, experienced mum with lots of milk and they  snuggle down together "top to toe" to keep warm.

Chi-Chi worn 2 cria coats together through the worst of the weather and was finally released from the coat she had outgrown last week. Cha Cha gave her some very funny looks as she believed that she had a "blue" baby,(colour of coat). However after a few sniffs and bleats they were reunited.

POLO

Polo aged 6 months. Photo opposite

He is now almost 4 years old and still has a striking confirmation and stunning fleece. On analysis his fleece registered 97% comfort factor. We had reserved him to use as a stud. However we have found that the demand for darker, coloured alapcas is far greater than the whites.

As we felt so sorry for him being lonely in a field by himself, (he was too bossy with the young males whilst intact) we have now had him castrated.

He is very easy on a halter and has a gentle and friendly nature.

FARHILL FARM RICARDO

FARHILL FARM MISS LADY

 lady

"Lady" is our only female cria from last year who was born on 30/6/12.

She is very cute and we think a very pretty alpaca with her chocolate brown coat and dark nose, eyes and ears.

Her Dam is Miss America or "Missy", her Sire is Bozedown Busby.

She is a shy little girl who has been a bit bossed around in the herd up to the point of weaning. Once she was taken out of the larger herd her confidence has been a pleasure to watch develop. She has commenced her halter training along with Vadar and Mr Pink and is doing well so far.

Her fleece is soft, fairly dense and has some pleasing characteristics. Her frame is sturdy and we hope will remain fairly compact like her Sire's.

LILIA

We watched Lilia's birth one Sunday morning as we were listening to an athlete called "Lilia" winning the Ladies race in the London Marathon. What other name could we choose apart from star ! Which is what she is !

Lilia is a solid black female and even at 3 months old has the most inquisitive, fun and confident personality of all our cria's to date.

Not only that, she is strong with a lovely shape to her body and a beautiful face. She stands out in the field !

February 2013 update

Lilia had her first cria in 2012. She has made a super Mum and is still the most confident and nosey alpaca in the herd.

It will be her who gets her head stuck in the bucket, escapes into another paddock and tries to feed her baby through the fence! She is the first to get to the feed although she does still respect the fact that Cha Cha is the "boss"

MISS LIBERTY

bambi and missmissysbabybambi

Born to our first time Mum - Miss America on 30/6/2010 late in the afternoon which is quite unusual.

In fact she took us by surprise as we didn't expect "Missy" to produce her baby for another few weeks. However Miss Liberty - "Libby" was full term and I spotted her rolling down the hill at about 4pm on a hot afternoon. She had just been born and the other "aunties" were following her down the hill whilst Missy stood looking very confused at the strange "poo" she had produced.

Missy has made a great Mum and "Libby" has settlrd down very well with little Lilia for company and chasing around at Farhill Farm.

February 2013 update.....

Libby had her first cria in 2012. Her and Lilia are still good friends but with Mum responsibilities now they do not career around the field together. Libby is very gentle natured and takes a back seat until all the others have had their share of food. Hopefully she will produce another super cria this year........

 FARHILL FARM MR PINK

Affectionately known as "Pinky" due to his pink nose and mouth when he was born on 15/7/12.

His Dam is Miss Liberty :"Libby" and his Sire is Farhill farm Polo.

Yes he does have eyes! His fleece is so dense that we have to keep giving him a haircut and he clearly is ready for a trim.

He is light fawn and his fleece has a fantastic feel to it. Not sure given the awful light at present that his colour is even throughout. We will need to have a better look once the daylight improves.

He has a great shape and is a friendly, confident little boy.

He has started to walk on a halter very hesitantly and made a good start.
